MagLatch devices have not been approved by the DOJ. This device was designed to conform to the law as written in SB-880/AB 1135, which defines “fixed magazine” to mean an ammunition feeding device contained in, or permanently attached to, a firearm in such a manner that the device cannot be removed without disassembly of the firearm action. Thousands of units have been installed and tested under the law. Multiple authorities have authorized use of our device. Since DOJ refuses to release an opinion letter we are unable to claim it is DOJ approved.

Installation Instructions Didn't Work for Me

Published by james gugino on Jul 25th 2024

When the latch is installed and trigger assembly replaced I could not for the life of me fully insert a magazine. Full insertion requires the mag catch/release to move to the release position briefly as the lock block on the back of the mag passes up and once past, the mag catch pops back and holds/locks the mag in place. I removed the mag lock latch, reinstalled the trigger housing and fully inserted a mag. I then removed the trigger assembly, leaving the mag in place, reinstalled the mag lock latch, and then reinstalled the trigger assembly. That's what worked for me.

M1A fixed mag kit -- works well, instructions need more detail

Published by Jim on Jul 13th 2023

I've installed two of these on a pair of Springfield M1A loaded match rifles to transform them into "fixed magazine" firearms. They do work -- once installed, there is NO way to activate the mag release latch with the trigger group in place. No amount of leverage with tools or other "bullet button" workarounds can succeed -- which is exactly what I need to be compliant with dreadful legislation that mandates that "fixed magazine" means that the firearm needs to be disassembled to change the mag. Maglatch's product succeeds very well indeed. The only minor points that kept me from awarding a full 5 star review are the instructions. They lack detail, and are overly optimistic about the ease of applying and removing these devices when moving to a "free" state. Fortunately, I was able to figure out where the device should be installed on the trigger group for it to achieve its function. The instructions and tiny photo were insufficient by themselves, and the job needed some careful attention, studying what part levers against what, and which must be immobilized to comply with these dreadful laws. On a newer M1A, the part slipped right in. On an older one, however, I had to use a brass punch and hammer to tap it into place. I predict that the reverse effort with a punch will be required to remove it, bending the device and rendering it a "single installation only" part. The notion suggested by the instructions that it can be freely removed and replaced in seconds is unrealistic. However, as a single time install device, it meets my needs as these dreadful laws work their way through the judicial process.

    m1a/m14 fixed magazine kit

First of all it does the job. I'm happy to be able to take my closet queen out for exercise. My rifle is the supermatch by Springfield and it may be a tighter fit in my gun vs std. m1a's. I had to file the latch blocker to fit inside the trigger group. A very tight fit. Next still it would not slide into position without removing the mag latch pin, inserting the new part and then re-pinning the mag release lever. Like i said maybe my rifle was just tight, and it took some time to fit it in. Still I am Happy to have it done and don't have to worry about Big Brother or Big Sister here in NY.
